Washington, DC– U.S. Black Chambers president Ron Busby released the following condolences regarding the passing of Congressman Elijah Cummings:
“We are saddened by the loss of a civil rights champion and one of the most powerful Democrats in Congress. Congressman Cummings was a friend of the U.S. Black Chambers and stood by our mission of supporting Black-owned businesses and Black Chambers of Commerce.
Raised by sharecroppers, Congressman Cummings defied the odds in becoming a powerful legislator, a champion for justice, and civil rights icon. His brilliance, determination, and bold advocacy for the residents in his congressional district and the Black community at-large, lives on. We will continue to uphold his legacy of integrity, grit, and advocacy.
On behalf of the entire U.S. Black Chambers our heart goes out to the loved ones of Congressman Elijah Cummings and to all grieving the loss of a great Black leader.”
